In-house Laboratory

We have made a significant investment in our diagnostic laboratory. The reason? When your companion animal is ill, we want results fast to tailor appropriate therapies without delay.
Although Valley Animal Hospital sends blood samples to a reference laboratories such as Cornell and Texas A&M, we have on premises blood machines. We are able to perform Complete blood counts as well as blood enzyme and electrolytes. We use Blood counts to establish whether or not infection is present and if so, what type. Blood Chemistries help us determine the functionality of the organs.

Our electrolyte machine determines the delicate balance of sodium, chloride and potassium and is used especially when our patients are on intravenous fluids. In this way, we can tailor the type of fluid for each specific patient. These delicate changes can be required literally in hours. Other tests we can run on site are urinalyses, stool samples, Feline leukemia tests, Feline Aids tests, Heartworm Tests and Canine Parvovirus tests to name just a few.

In addition to our in-house laboratory, Valley Animal Hospital has daily pickups from a reference laboratory to run the non critical tests that your companion animal may require. This helps reduce costs, increase the breadth of tests available to us and and obtain the expertise of Board certified clinical pathologists. All results from our laboratory are delivered to us over the internet. As soon as the test is completed, it is posted to our passworded account on the reference laboratory's website. This decreases the time it takes to receive the results. As soon as the results are available, we know them. They are then "pasted" into our computerized record system so they can be viewed by the staff anywhere in the hospital at any time.
